5-week Southeast Asia solo trip reflections part 7
Final stop: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

My last stop before returning to Singapore to catch my flight home was Kuala Lumpur. Simply put: I enjoyed my time here.
KL is a melting pot between a handful of cultures that blends well together through the perspective of mere existence.
The people were kind and seemed to have more of a tolerance toward foreigners. The food was great—from Malaysian,
Indian, various types of Chinese cuisines, and fusions. Sightseeing, shopping, and interaction with the locals were
pleasant despite any cultural and religious differences.
The highlight for me, that would even top the durian experience I had there, was the conversation I had with my Grab
driver while I was headed to the airport. We discussed the similarities and differences in careers, economic climates,
opportunities, traveling, and family based on where we’re both from. There may have been contrasts but there was a
silent understanding at the end that we ultimately connected with each other because despite the differences, we are the
same. We wished each other well and bid our goodbyes.
My experience in KL rounded out the goal of the trip that I had prior to departing. I found answers to my questions or a
guide for action items, gained experience on multiple levels, and found myself at a better place than where I was at
before I left to go on the trip. I thought about how I could’ve sat at home and meditated and that would also work, but,
putting myself out of my comfort zone and at “risk” helped me grew exponentially than what I would ever imagine. I
essentially did the cliché backpacking trip every college graduate goes on but did not have the chance to at the time.
